ERICA HERNÁNDEZ

BIO

Erica is a Los Angeles based director and photographer with roots in Flint, Michigan - a city that taught her resilience, grit, and the power of story.

Her work lives at the intersection of elegance and edge, cinematic worlds that pulse with texture, tension, and emotional bite. Erica isn't interested in passive beauty; she creates pictures that confront, immerse, and linger. Each frame is built to leave a mark.

At PICTUREKID, she's part of a new wave of artists who refuse to simply navigate the industry. Erica shapes it with images that are distinctive, unshakable, and impossible to ignore.

A MOMENT WITH THE MAYOR

(ERICA)

What’s your creative superstition?

Coming in with bad energy. It doesn't matter what happened that morning, do not bring the bad vibes with you. Create a sacred bubble around you to protect your creative force.

The best bad idea you’ve ever had?

It’s how I create my mixed media. It all started with bad ideas - some that turn into good ones. I take tape, I rip, I dip the film paper in paint, I squeegee it, I scan it. Whatever I can get my hands on. It’s exploratory.

What’s your greatest extravagance?

Vintage film cameras. I recently bought the entire Contax 645 kit. It’s a medium format film camera with auto focus, digital back compatibility and absolutely beautiful lenses.

All my disposable income is currently tied up in cocktails and reservations - which is probably why I’ve been dubbed the mayor of the Los Angeles restaurant scene.

Martini order?

Extra dirty vodka martini - shaken. Chopin vodka. 3 olives. Give me a sidecar of briney. I’m such a briney girl!
